LXV Ambassador Bob Purdy sees SUP as a catalyst for change in our World
From atop his Standup Paddleboard, Bob Purdy has gained a noble prospective and appreciation for the beauty of the outdoors. Gaining the rich experience and connection to nature that paddling offers, he felt the need to do more to call others to action and raise awareness of environmental challenges.
With that motivated passion, Purdy began seeking that connection... everyday. Since January 1, 2011, he has continued to get out on the water on his paddleboard everyday with out fail. And later this month, on June 22nd, Purdy will mark the 2000th consecutive day! No small feat alone and then consider he lives on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.
To get the message out to a wider audience, Purdy founded World Paddle for the Planet Day and celebrated the first one on June 16th, 2012. "The idea is to invite paddlers to join me in sending a wave of change around the planet once a year," said Purdy. "Pick a change you want to see in the World, paddle for it on WPFTP Day, then commit to it until it becomes a reality."
On that first WPFTP day, Purdy paddled the length of Lake Okanagan in British Columbia, an 80 mile undertaking, to spark attention to his cause. "That's where I was living at the time, but paddlers from all over on all kinds of craft, SUP, canoe, kayak, you name it, joined in from their backyard waterway. Paddlers can relate to our message because being out on the water leads to a love our your surroundings and what we love we will protect."
This year, World Paddle for the Planet Day is Sunday, June 26th. Purdy invites everyone to join him in Ucluelet, British Columbia, Canada or get out on the water wherever you are in the World. "Paddles start at 12 noon in your own time zone so we can send a continuous wave of change around the planet! Future generations are counting on us to leave them a healthy and vibrant planet, let's show them we are doing everything in our power to do just that."
The family of brands at LXV Outdoor are proud sponsors of World Paddle for the Planet Day.
